A logistics platform, still growing five years on
Venaxx came to us in 2021 for a logistics application and website. We are still working on it — enhancements, new capability, and the steady expansion that happens when a platform is actually being used.
Background
The client
Venaxx came to us in 2021 for a logistics application and a website. We are still working on it — enhancements, new capability and the steady expansion that happens when a platform is genuinely in daily use rather than sitting in a portfolio.
Where it started
The challenge
Logistics software lives or dies on whether it matches how the operation actually runs, and that is never quite how anyone describes it in a first meeting.
The written process and the real process diverge in small ways that only surface once the software is in someone’s hands at seven in the morning. The platform had to fit the business as it really worked, then keep pace as that changed.
Approach
What we built
We built the website and the logistics application together so the public face and the operational side share one model rather than drifting apart.
Since launch we have developed it continuously instead of handing it over and walking away, which is what has let it absorb five years of change in how the business operates.
Built with
The technology
Mobile
Flutter for cross-platform delivery, native Swift where iOS needed to go deeper than a shared codebase allows, Android Studio for the Android build
Backend
Node.js and Laravel services
Data
MongoDB and PostgreSQL
Infrastructure
Amazon Web Services
Result
The outcome
Venaxx has been running on the platform since 2021, with enhancement work continuing.
The app has passed 5,000 downloads and more than 8,000 shipments have been delivered successfully through the system. In logistics that second number is the only one that counts: a download is a driver installing an app, but a completed shipment is the whole chain — dispatch, route, handover and proof — having worked end to end, eight thousand times over.
The website and the operational application share one model rather than drifting apart. Read more about how we approach web and platform development, or see the rest of our work.
