A chauffeur service for award nights and elite travel
POD Luxury is a premium cab platform built for celebrity and event travel — a different product from mass-market ride hailing, with a passenger who expects discretion, certainty and safety before convenience.
Background
The client
POD Luxury is a premium chauffeur platform built for award nights, celebrity travel and elite private clients. It is not ride hailing with a higher price. The passenger is often recognisable, frequently travelling to a scheduled event with no tolerance for lateness, and values discretion above every other feature.
We built this one whole-heartedly. It went through more rounds of concept and design revision than anything else we have shipped, because the defaults everybody else uses were wrong here.
Where it started
The challenge
Almost everything mass-market ride hailing optimises for is the wrong objective for this audience.
Surge pricing is irrelevant to a passenger who is not price-sensitive. Fast matching to the nearest available driver is actively wrong when the vehicle and the driver both have to meet a standard. Sharing a live location is a safety feature for most people and a liability for someone recognisable. And an event has a fixed start time, so a car arriving late has failed completely rather than partially.
The interface had to feel considered rather than efficient — which is a genuinely difficult brief when every convention in the category pushes the other way.
Approach
What we built
We went through several rounds of concept and design revision precisely because the default patterns did not fit, and each round removed something borrowed from mass-market apps.
Booking is built around scheduled event travel rather than immediate hailing: the journey is arranged in advance, against a known vehicle and driver, with confirmation the passenger can rely on. Safety is handled as a first-class feature rather than a settings screen.
The visual design was rebuilt repeatedly until it stopped reading as a taxi app. For this audience the product has to feel like a service they have retained, not an app they have downloaded.
Built with
The technology
Mobile
Flutter for cross-platform delivery, native Swift where iOS needed to go deeper than a shared codebase allows, Android Studio for the Android build
Backend
Node.js and Laravel services
Data
MongoDB and PostgreSQL
Infrastructure
Amazon Web Services
Result
The outcome
POD Luxury is live and in regular use within its user group, with more than 5,000 journeys booked across roughly a thousand selected users — about five journeys each.
In this market that ratio matters far more than the raw install count. These are not people who tried it once; they are people who now use it as their default for event travel, and it is well established in the elite circles it was built for.
Everything mass-market ride hailing optimises for is the wrong objective here. Read more about how we approach mobile app development, or see the rest of our work.
